Governors’ Climate and Forest Summit 2010 14 Governors from All Over the World Discuss about REDD in Aceh

VHRmedia, Banda Aceh – Governors’ Climate and Forest (GCF) Summit is started Monday (5/17). This 3 days meeting will discuss about the right of indigenous people on forest. This issue is rarely talked by the government on many environment and climate change forum.
On this meeting, governors from several countries will discuss about regulation on forest management and climate change. The Governor of California Arnold Scharzenegger cancelled his present on this meeting.
“We have not got concrete solution on previous meeting. Here, in Aceh, we try to find the solution,” the Governor of Aceh Irwandi Yusuf said, Monday (5/17).
Significant problems will be discussed on this meeting, such as the right of indigenous people on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD). This forum will also discuss about how to calculate the carbon stock and its implementation on REDD.
Irwandi said that the government of Aceh has implemented the logging moratorium since June 2007. “I was involved in initiating the GCF forum. I recommended countries to maintain their forest, and for that, they have to get appreciation from the world.”
Senior advisor of GCF William Boyd said that the governors will discuss about environment issues on their province. “They will also tell us about the benefit of the endless maintenance for the environment.”
The Deputy Secretary for Climate Change and Energy at California Natural Resources Agency Anthony Brunellor said that this meeting is very interesting, since governors from Brazil, the United States of America, and Indonesia participate on this meeting. The three countries have different path in saving the forest. “We will discuss about standards and criteria to give good benefits to indigenous people.”
The Governors’ Climate and Forest Forum (GCF) 2010 is attended by 14 provinces or states, such as Aceh, Papua, West Kalimantan and East Kalimantan (all from Indonesia), California, Wisconsin, and Illinois (US), and Acre, Amapa, Amazonas, Matto Grosso, and Para (from Brazil). (E1)
