Mount Sinabung Awakes after 400 Years in Sleep
Who can imagine that Mount Sinabung, located in Tanah Karo, North Sumatera, awake from its long sleep without warning. Tens of thousands people who live under the mountain have fled to Berastagi and Jabanjahe to rescue themselves, their children, their family, and their cattle.
Clouds of ash from the mountain firstly appeared on Friday (8/27) at 18.30 WIB. People who live in villages under the mountain had fled, but the government, by Vulcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Center, announced that it would not erupt. The institution asked the people to go home on Saturday morning. In fact, the mount erupted on Saturday night, around 23.45 WIB. People were in panic. Thousands of people tried to seek safer locations. Thick black clouds of ash have covered several villages under the mountain. The clouds even reached Kabanjahe and Berastagi City in Tanah Karo.
