VHRmedia.com, Jakarta - Mitra Netra Foundation criticized State Islamic University (UIN) Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta in refusing a blind person to be their student. Wijaya, the candidate, was refused as he confirmed his enrollment.
Mitra Netra spokesperson Aria Indrawati said that Wijaya has passed the entrance examination to gain admission to Bahasa Indonesia Department of Faculty of Tarbiyah (an Arabic word, related to educational things). But as he did the second enrollment process, the university refused Wijaya, who just graduated from high school No. 66 in South Jakarta.
This university also returned Rp 1,850,000 of admission fee, but has not returned the files Wijaya had given as he enrolled to the university. "I have no idea, why the university which has been friendly to the blind people suddenly changed their attitude," Aria Indrawati Thursday (17/7) said in a press release.
Meanwhile, there are 4 blind students studying in UIN Syarif Hidayatullah. Even last year, there was a blind student received an outstanding graduate from Faculty of Tarbiyah.
Mitra Netra then urged the university to accept Wijaya as their student's candidate for Bahasa Indonesia of Faculty of Tarbiyah. As a distinguish university, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah has damaged their own credibility by discriminating a young person who wants to develop himself. (E1)
